Stitching for Literacy 2010

It's that time of year again, and we are participating in the Stitching For Literacy program once again. The challenge starts today, and will go through May 6th. Last year we collected 41 bookmarks. I'd really like to see if we can blow that number out. What do you say? Also, it would be really nice if you attached a note to your bookmark with your name and your favorite book - or your favorite book when you were growing up.

The bookmarks can be stitched on any background (perforated paper, aida, linen, perforated plastic, canvas), and it doesn't have to be cross stitch. You can make bookmarks incorporating any needlework technique (cross stitch, blackwork, hardanger, needlepoint, beading). Yes, you read correctly...beading.

I will be bringing in some "shephard's" hook bookmarks so if you want to stitch a beaded pattern and attach it that will certainly count. Any cross stitch pattern can be used as a square-stitch pattern, and there are lots of small peyote and brick stitch patterns out there.
I have quite a few bookmark patterns here, with more coming in next week. I also have finished bookmark blanks, with more coming in next week. Perforated paper and plastic is in stock as well.

Anyone involved with an EGA group, or just a group who gets together to stitch, please let everyone know and ask for their participation. If any of you have trouble getting started, just come in and talk to me. I would be happy to help. Last year I had a notebook with bookmark finishing ideas and instructions. I will put my hands on that and leave it out for anyone to look at. Please call, come in, or email me if you plan to participate in this program so I can get an idea of who is interested. Let's show those kids how much we care!
